Just wondering if I will need high or low mount set of rings if I buy a vortex strikefire red dot and put it on my stock m14. If I buy a Bushnell TRS is there an option to raise it? I have the Casm mount from m14.ca. Will I need a cheek piece? Thanks

If your running a CASM get the red dot as low as possible, the mount is fairly tall. The TRS is a really low red dot, so you might get away without a cheek riser.

I believe the new SHG from M14.ca is a better way to mount a red dot really low and not worry about adding a cheek riser.

Fair enough. . .but I already bought the casm from m14.ca so the SHG is a moot point.

Thanks for the opinion CanuckR

I ended up going with the Bushnell TRS-25. . .it looks to be reasonably priced and decent enough. If it turns out to be junk I will buy a nice Aimpoint next time.

Question. Is it better to mount it towards the front or the back of my casm m14.ca rail??? I tried both locations and don't have that much of a preference--what would help zero the rifle better on target???

Any takers on answering this last question of mine?

Sight location won't make a difference there. Accuracy is up to you.

Fair enough.

As Stevo pointed out 'location won't make a difference', but I'll add that it doesn't
hurt to move the optic around and see what location works/looks best for you.

Good luck

Thanks guys. I was thinking from a mathematical standpoint the rifle would be easier to zero by having the sight as far to the middle of the rifle as possible--but maybe my logic is flawed.
