I was just thumbing thru some pics of the PRS match at Meaford this past year and noticed some shooters had a small relax or red dot mounted to the main optic. Just wondering if these are being used for indexing the scope on a target or close up shots?

Close up shots.

Switching between long and short distance shots.

Can run them offset as well, or irons.

Certain PRS stages they won't allow you to touch your scope so you're fixed to 16x or 24x on it and when you're trying to look for targets it's a lot quicker with a red dot.

Easier to spot some targets behind a red dot than it is magnified glass. Once you have the target in the red dot, swap to the magnified glass and away you go.

For PRS matches like Meaford, its not really an advantage. For more field type matches where targets are hidden in the terrain and amongst the trees, it can really help.

I sure wish I had one for last year's SHC...
