Red dot on shotgun

For turkey, or for slug use, a red dot can work very well, but for wingshooting, I wouldn't bother. I have seen a few people try holographic sights at skeet, and they failed miserably.
On my end, I've had good results using a Bushnell Holo Sight on my 870 for trap & pest critters since 2009. Ain't shot skeet with 'er as it might
suck fer me on station 8.;) Main thing to avoid with holo sights is shooting when the sun is behind you. Goodbye sight image. Uuugh. :(

Got no worries on cheek weld with my setup.

My wing shooting gun this year is a Cynergy Ultimate Turkey that I’ve set up with a regular bead and an aimpoint Acro S2 clamped to the rib. It has a synthetic adjustable cheek piece that gets the extra bit of height required for good cheek / head position.

My fun gun (grouse, deer, clays, maybe moose or elk) just came back from the gunsmith like this:

Am finally going to get to play with those Lee Key Drive slugs brybenn put me onto! Can’t wait.

Cheers,

Brobee
I've been looking at one of those red dots. Would love to hear feed back.

The reddit I use are labeled as weaver. They were built for pellet guns and they hold up on my double rifle in 4570 and my 3.5" turkey gun. I've now switched to low powered optics but the reddot sits on a single shot 410 with a turkey choke. It's just cheating for squirrels. I do shoot skeet sometimes with it and while a reddot and a turkey choked 410 is not ideal I can still put up respectable scores shooting singles of course
Battery life has been good. It finally died during my last round of skeet and it's the original battery from when I bought it 20 years ago
I prefer a simple dot of 3moa
However the optic on my crossbow has blue illumination and I much prefer the blue

I run a Vortex Venom 6moa on my VR-66 and I really enjoy it. I’m not a fan of ghost ring sights that the VR comes with, I just find them slow on target acquisition personally, although I’m sure others will disagree with my opinion on that. I find them slow red dot to be way quicker for me, I’ve used it in quite a few competitions now, 2Gun/3Gun and even used it for Trap a few times and it’s always a good time. A lot of the folks I shoot with have converted to red dots on shotguns and popularity is definitely on the rise

I had my 6 moa venom mounted the same as yours on the rail of my 1301. Found it way too high. Taking the rail and ghost ring off made a world of difference

I found the same problem with the height, now I run a 6mm thick Beretta gel pad on the stock, works very well to raise my cheek weld to the right height IMG_0321.jpeg

anyone have any experience with running a red dot on their shotgun. what would be a good size dot? how is battery life in colder late fall days?
Burris makes what they call the "Speed Bead" and there is a small following of wing shooters who use it.

I have seen guys on the Trap Range mount a Variable powered scope or a fixed power scope on their shotguns.

Creates quite the dialog on the stand or behind the fence and even some ridicule in the Club House while the shooter is on the field.
Shoot what works for you and enjoy the success...

I have been having issues with my Brno 21H and a scope selection and have been toying with a Red Dot or a Reflex Red Dot site.

I would think a bright red or a green dot/ring would work well in the fall colours.

Rob

I would also like to know if there is a red dot site that can be directly attached to the vent rib of a Wingmaster shotgun, without any other mounting hardware.
