Hey guys-hoping to mix it up a bit this spring, move away from the bench/heavy bags..and try some reactive targets/steel etc. I may also be ready to buy/try a red dot that isn't a blurry POS. :)

I see lots to like about the Holosun brand, but also like the size of something like an Aimpoint Micro. I think I prefer a circle/dot reticle (or the option) and the Holosun HS512C seems to have every feature I want...except it's size seems less appealing on a light-weight 22. Would like to be around $500, open to new or used, a bit nervous I wouldn't be able to recognize a fake. (lack of experience with these sights)

Open to ideas, would love to see some photos of what you're using and why you like it.

Looking forward to being educated!

thanks.

blurry for a red dot may be a sign of astigmatism for your eyes and vision not the quality of the red dot ...

Thanks for the reply. My experience with red dots is almost exclusively with poor quality ones... I'll be looking at anything I'm closing in on, JIC.

I do just fine with my $200 red dots...PA M25 SLX, Bushnell TRS25, Bushnell Incinerate...add a 3x magnifier and they are even better!

medvedqc has a point about astig. I had that b4 I had corneal implants done. I've got a $50 3MOA red dot from amazon with 4 diff rets and 2 colours and none of them are blurry. Ca.1" at 50yds with a Sav-64. I DO prefer the 'circle-dot' ret as the circle gets on target fast and the dot lets you Zee in if you want.
I found Green is a bit better for daytime targets so it doesn't get 'lost' on the paper (with Red Bulls), but in the woods the Red would be preferable.
B4 you buy a $3-500 Dot, look at some of the 'low-priced spread' like Aimpoint etc and compare to the Holo's - it might be your eyes. When was your last check-up ?
BTW - Mine is a Reflex, not the 'Tube-type' - the Rectangular 'screen' seems easier for quick Target-acquisition. YMMV

I have Astigmatism too.

The cheap $40 amazon red dot is great for the kids but i switched to a $199 vortex crossfire for me and it cleared everything up

I have had a TRS25 on 2 different 9mm PCC's and it has held up really well. I think it would be a great choice on a .22, just a dot though not a circle dot. You still see them on sale periodically for under $150.

And I recently got an 'old stock-discontinued' Simmons 'Cross-bow Red Dot' that has 3x 3MOA dots arranged vertically so its like BDC. I haven't decided where it'll go - it's 'spare #2' with #1 being a combo NcStar Dot/Laser. Both 'Clearanced' at $50 and NO Fuzzies on either. Original list on'em was ca $150.

My friend has the Bushnell TRS25 on his 10/22. Its a very nice sight for the price IMO. I have a Crossfire red dot I put on my SKS, but I haven't had the chance to play with it at the range, but its nice to look through at home.

Compared to the NCStar and Crosspoint reddots I own, the Bushnell TRS25 and Crossfire are approximately a billion times better, and much smaller.

Ideally, choose something that has a 2MOA dot or thereabouts.

If you can, go somewhere you can handle the different options in person. They each feel a bit different, and the reticle / eye box is different as well. You will easily see where the value lies if you can look at $200 sights vs $500 sights side by side.

If you can't do the above, then any of the common options from roughly the $200MSRP and up offer what I think are reasonable quality. For the low end, the Bushnell TRS25 is easily the most commonly recommended (often on sale for $150, sometimes less). Mid range ($300-500?) Vortex or Holosun fully enclosed options are hard to go wrong with. As long as they have the features you want, different models just look and feel different, which is going to be a subjective call.

If you're patient, you should be able to find a used Aimpoint H1 inside your budget (I think there was one on the EE recently). I had one years ago and they're outstanding. Unless it was going on a hard use rifle, I wouldn't bother with the expense of one now.

Y'all know they make glasses to eliminate astig ?? If you're shooting w/o glasses then it's on you !!
PS - Get Safety glasses that go over Rx glasses.
How many answers does this (or many other threads) take ?? I see 100 replies that are answered within 10. Buncha old ladies, gotta have their say . . .
Spend $50 or 500, ya gotta please yourself. I spent $50and bought another cheap rifle with the rest !!

Myself I would purchase a Burris Fastfire 2 or 3. Leupold on again off again red dots have dismal performance. Instead of generation 2,3, etc Leupold just drops a red dot completely.
Beyond Burris a Holosun. If you desire 30mm might as well get an Aimpoint of some type.
Buy once cry once.

Lightweight 22? Burris 2 or 3 is my top pick.
