Looking for suggestions on a reasonably priced Red Dot scope for a new Marlin 39A

.22lr used for cottontail hunting

Never used a Red Dot, want something I can get on target very quick and accurate up to 70 yards.

Are the Tasco Red Dots complete junk? Have heard good things on Bushnell and Aimpoint...

your thoughts please
Thanks

I've had a tasco red dot on my 4570 for a couple of years and took a couple of deer with it no trouble and very fast to aquire target.

Red dots - be it tasco or anythign else is not good for 22 generally due to a size of intended targets. Dot will be bigger than rabbits head at 50 yards, we are not talking squirrels or grouses. Tasco is just as good as any other ones, not better not worse.
deer size - maybe, but you are not allowed to hunt deer with 22.

Go with a low powered scope instead.

I had a red dot on a 10/22, and it was great for fast target acquisition up close, shooting swamp rats on the farm ponds (10-25 yds), but near useless for gophers at usual ranges for that the dot got way bigger than the target pretty fast as you got some distance.

See if you can hook up with someone that has one that you can try to see if you like it first.

A 1.5-to whatever variable scope will work a lot better, IMO, and will look better too. Acquisition is really fast, once you learn to keep both eyes open when you are aiming.

a small 4x32 scope would work well. I used to use a tasco pro point on my 22magnum, had an adjustable dot brightness setting. So at longer distances the dot wouldn't be overwhelming. Worked great if you have weaver mounts on your 22lr.

this one ...

Edit: this sight wouldn't suit your firearm ... didn't realize it was a lever action at first.

I'd go with some kind of tang or receiver mounted peep sight for a lever action.
That's the plan with my 9422m anyways.
