Red dot sight for coyote slug gun

Won a 870 express rifled 20 gauge in a draw. Can't see myself ever using it for deer but am thinking about using it for coyote. I don't do much coyote hunting, so don't really want to spend the money to put a good sight on this. Was thinking of putting a red dot sight on this. Found several with good reviews that cost very little. I figure i can easily setup in a spot that keeps my shots under 100 yards, which seems to be the limit for red dot sights.

Never used a red dot sight before. Is that a practical setup? I don't really ever see anyone using them, but just thought it might be a good, cheap option for what I plan on using it for.

May also use it for wild boar hunting in Texas, but that would be a one time thing. They recommend open sights, so seems like red dot would be good, but again, no experience ever using one

I'm a big fan of the TRS 25, I've three now. I've never had any problems, and the one on my 12g has held up great.

If you can find one one sale, or during the Bushnell mail-in rebate season, I think it's tough to beat the value. The best deals I found have been used stock from Amazon Warehouse.

nikon spur is a very open picture and handles 12g slugs recoil

They work well if the dot is small with decent settings. I ran one on a semi auto pistol caliber carbine and it was grrat for calling coyotes and wolves. Wasnt that great for a head shot on a grouse passed 50 yards as mine had a 4 moa dot.
Cheaper ones will illuminate to brightly at the lowest settings to be usable in low light while others maynot be bright enough in the day light against snow covered back grounds.
Red dots are fast and allow both eyes to stay open.
The best ones ive tried were branded by walther. Had them on various slug guns and turkey guns. Shot alot of turkeys using one
All said and done ive switched back to scopes as its my personal preference.
