Hello All,

Happy to join the site- Devon from Freedom Ventures (Maritimes Canada) mentioned this was an excellent resource for community info.

I recently purchased an STI .223/.556 tactical rifle. I'm trying to find a suitable red dot sight for under $500. I'm shooting high velocity rounds between 10-100 yards. After looking online I'm more confused than ever.

Essentially I'm hoping to either find a good model and order on amazon or from a vendor associated with this site.

What would you recommend?

Are you talking a simple red dot with no magnification?
Bushnell has an inexpensive one. Holosun is a knockoff of the Aimpoint and is quite good. A regular Aimpoint H1 or T1 is close to your $500 limit. The T1 would be my call around that price. You can occasionally get Eotechs around that price used on the EE but I like the battery life of the Aimpoint better.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, simple red dot with no magnification OR 2x magnification. Don't need any night vision compatibility. After looking at the aimpoint they're too expensive. If you had to choose between the holosun or the bushnell, what would you choose? Any help with model names or numbers?

All depends on your preference.
Holosun.ca sells directly. Their RDSs range from $190ish to $260 ish. Some models actually have a mini solar panel to charge the battery.
Also look at Burris and Vortex Strikefire II.
They all hover around $250. Take a look at the sites directly and pick the model and style that looks best to you. Optics in this range all work about the same +/-.

Go to the EE - oops you need a certain amount of posts to check it out.

I have heard good things about the Bushnell TRS-25 (It's a ripoff of the Aimpoint Micro). You can get the high rise option from Cabellas for like 150 bucks.

Thank you very much for your help BM. I used amazon.ca and also got a laser bore sighter. Free shipping and same price as Cabelas! Thanks again.
