I am looking to buy a new optic for my steyr scout and xcr. I'm leaning towards the vortex spitfire but I also want to evaluate other options on the market. The trijicon acog is only other magnified red dot I can thing of. Are there other options available?

Thanks!

I use a Vortex Crossfire II 1-4x24 on my carbine, it has the V-Brite reticle: normal duplex with a red dot in the middle. On 1x (no zoom), the thing acts as a simple red dot. That scope is also available in a lot of other magnifications.

I have the Spitfire 3x and it is definitely worth it. Solid, and the hi-rise mount works perfectly on my Tavor.

There's also the Burris equivalent:

Neither of those are actually magnified red dots, they're prism scopes, which are completely different than red dots.

That said, Burris does make a line of low power fixed magnification scopes with illuminated reticules.

I have a Burris AR536 (5X) and it's way too much for anything other than bench shooting. also have a Leupold VRX 1.25-4 scope on an AR, that is pretty nice, but would be perfect if it was a true 1-4 not 1.25.

What kind of shooting are you doing that you're thinking mag red dot?

I have a Vortex Spitfire prism sight as well. The reticle is etched into the glass. Very nice glass. The 3x is just about the right amount of magnification. I have heard that they are really tough and take a fair share of abuse (wouldn't know personally). Can't go wrong.
