Red Dot sights?

I'm looking to get something different for me..

I've on the hunt for either a CZ 527 7.62x39 or a Henry single break action 3030 and want to top it off with a red dot. Since either of these are 150yd guns a low magnification sight is fine for hunting. It seems the price ranges from used $60-$1000+
What I'm thinking:

Low magnification 1-4x
Dot 2 MOA
Pic rail mount (low to fit the gun well)
Cheap as possible

What do I need to know?

I've got a variety of scopes but I'd like to try a red dot. This rig would in reality be a 75 yd or less gun for deer etc. Possibly cast bullets for bunnies at reduced velocity. I'd like to give the red dot a try for not much $, less than $500 including a rail.
I've discovered I can't use a peep sight in low light any more so I'd like the compact size of a red dot rather than a scope. I'd just like to know what I'm looking at before I go to a gun shop or show. Bushnell makes them, Riton as well but some are pistol sights, will that work on a rifle?
Does shake awake work on a long gun?

Excellent red dot with shake awake & a 25 mm objective.

Do you have a stigmatism and or cross eyed dominant? If either or both i would suggest you look through a red dot first and even try shooting one if you know anyone with one before you buy one to find out how it works for you.

That looks perfect for what the OP is asking for, and yes the shake awake will work on any rifle, it shuts off the power after a short period of inactivity and automaticaly turns it on when the optic is moved. Makes the battery last 5 years even when left on which is pretty sweet!

Marstar is a great retailer but it looks like primary arms is starting to go direct? Never noticed a Cdn specific site before..... good price and free shipping over $74 and $10 shipping if under $74. Hard to beat that these days.

Good point!
Red dots are a great way to diagnose astigmatism.... :) That's how I found out I have it but I find with smaller dots (1-2 moa) the slight flaring of the dot is not an issue for my eyes.

Interesting find Can-down, seems legit. Ty 4 the share.

There are several Holosun optics under $500, and unless you're rough, a $20-30 rail is all you'd need. RDSC (among other sponsors) have some.

I have a Vortex Defender 3moa dot on my Henry single shot mounted on a factory rail. Works and looks great! Tried a low power scope on it and just looked wrong.

After all of the helpful suggestions I think I'm pretty sure of what I'm looking for
Circle dot of some sort, 1moa dot and 6-12moa circle.
Probably Sig Sauer or Holosun (possibly PA as well).
Mounting low on a 3030, 7.62x39 and/or 12ga.

Will the entry level ($200) units handle the recoil?
Are the handgun as robust, are they all essentially the same?

I'm shooting a $40 UUQ red-dot on my SKS. I first had it on the barrel by the f-sight, per an experiment a member of sksboards. Worked OK, I guess, but awkward to see thru that far out. It took the recoil there just fine. Now it's on a dust cover 'tri-rail' and OK there too. Over 100 rounds between the 2 mounts, with No probs. I find the red-dot not that accurate, even compared to irons but it is faster getting a sight-picture. I might try a 12G next ? And maybe try my Holosun, too.
