Red dot

Promo is the same powder for all intents and purposes. It could be had for incredibly cheap back before the last couple panics. If you find any it can be used same as Red Dot for loading pistol ammunition. Unfortunately I am having trouble finding most any Alliant powders myself so that's all I can offer.

I asked at a shop yesterday in Ont. owner said he has a huge backorder on Alliant powder. He's hoping by summer. It is showing up in the States.

Good deal, I bought 3 lbs of titegroup but I believe Reddot is the way to go with .45 Colt.

I have been using Green Dot for pistol, most of the recent loading manuals don't list it but the older ones do. Basically Unique -15% or so and stay under max suggested loads. Red Dot also is a good powder for versatility.

45 Long colt, or 45 acp?

Sorry, couldn’t help myself lol!

There is only one true .45 Colt.

The "Long" epithet got tacked onto it to differentiate from .45 Schofield way way back in the day. Not many of those latter around!

The come-lately .45 ACP / .45 Automatic Colt Pistol / .45 Auto is obliged to differentiate itself with those initials or word "AUTO".

I have used Red Dot ever since it was first introduced. 9mm, .40 and .45. In the early years it was dirty but as time progressed it got cleaner and cleaner.
I have used it up until yesterday when I sold all of my reloading equipment.

I've got a few lbs, and it's a good thing as I have been plinking quite a bit with 303 British lately. Using cast bullets and "The Load", it still makes affordable fun. Factory 303B at Crappy Tire is $71.99 + tax for 20 rounds which is down right (and down left) ridiculous.
Hopefully stocks of Red Dot show up this summer.
Cheers
