Red dot

I was thinking of putting a low priced Red dot on my Smith&Wesson 22A. Any suggestions?

Decide whether you want the tube style or the reflex style. It's basically a matter of personal preference. I like the reflex type myself.

Consider how durable it needs to be for the use you have in mind. For a .22 pistol used gently at the range durability is not usually a major factor.

Determine approximately how much you want to pay. Personally I've found the "price/quality" connection less obvious with red dots than with scopes. I've got a couple $18 Chinese knock offs from eBay that, in terms of shooting accurately, work just as well as my $500 Leupold Deltapoint. The Leupold is superior in some ways, but not necessarily in ways that matter for a .22 pistol used casually.

Think about what reticle(s) you want. They often have several that can be selected by a dial, but not always. Some just have a single dot. Keep in mind too what the optimal reticle size will be for the distance you're shooting.

Big, elaborate looking sights have a certain cool factor that some people like. On the other hand, they add useless weight to the gun. Small sights make it easier to handle and use. Decide which is more important to you.

^^^ is right on the money. Ebay has some good deals on "BSA" red dots. I bought one at P&D for about 100 bucks and it's great. The same ones on Ebay, I'm pretty sure they are knock off are half that. Mind you I bought one off ebay too and if it's a copy i'm amazed at the quality and detail!
