I have a new remington 870 pump with cantilever mounts coming my way hopefully in by monday...........

was wondering if those Bushnell Trophy Red dot 1x are a good choice for a 12 gauge slug gun shooting 3 inch mag sabots? The farm i have permission to hunt the shotgun zone on, is pretty much 100 yard shots at best, but under 50 yards 90 % of the time according to the farmer.

Getting this 870..in 12Gauge clicky click

Bushnell Trophy Red dot clicky click

I used the red dot on my shotgun for turkeys with three and a half inch loads and am going to just switch barrels for deer i am sure if recoil was going to bugger up the red dot the three anda half inch loads would have let me know i do not think slugs hurt as much as some of the turkey loads i have tried good luck DUTCH

only thing im wondering is if the bushnell can stand up to the recoil of a slug gun.

thats what i want to know.

That scope is a rifle scope you want a scope like this:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...cat=Google&cm_pla=red dot scope&cm_ite=netcon

made for a 3" slug and a shotgun.
Get the larges apature you can afford 40mm is great.
new slugs like this

good for 200 yards. :shotgun::sniper:

Good luck

that redt dot by truglo you posted sure looks like a dead ringer for those Tasco Red dot ive seen.

The slugs you posted are slug i am trying out.hopefully the gun likes to eat them, at $22.95 for a box of 5 I sure as hell hope so. If not im sure it will like Super X BRI slugs.

Starting to thing maybe just a decent piece of glass with low magnification, but have always wanted to use a red dot for deer.

thanks for the replies, and still looking for more information on them :)

i have ran 50 or so 2 3/4" slugs and 20 or so 3" 00 and #4 buck through my 870 and my trophy Red dot seems to be working just fine. Just carry an extra battery and you are covered. The nice quick target aquisition and brighter dot settings are a bonus for snap shots and late evening hunts.

red dots have good points and bad points, from my experience. I have a bushnell trophy on my 1300. It holds zero fine, nice and light and fast target
acussition. However it really screws with your eyes,at dusk and dawn especially. You have to keep the reticle intesity as low a possible.
2006 I had a buck walk under my stand seconds after legal shooting time.
I could see him fine with the naked eye but when I looked trough the red dot
that was all I could see the "RED DOT" and black all around it, not the deer.
The lighted reticle even at its lowest setting was to bright even when I looked away my eyes still took a few seconds to adjust to the dawn light.
By then the buck boogered off with out me even getting a shot. Talk about
a helpless feeling. Opening day, buck 15 yards under the stand, put up the
scope and all you can see is a bright red dot and nothing else. couldnt even see his outline. eeeeek! If you go with the red dot just be aware of the light conditions. Keep the reticle intensity as low as posible as night falls and increase it when dawn approches, or you will experience the same scenario
as above. CDN1
