Red dots ?

OK you guys are giving me a certain urge to try red dots. How do I mount a red dot on my Glock 17 Gen 5 and CZ Shadow 1 ? Do I need to buy slides optics ready for them ? Where can I purchase those slides ?
Thanks
Gilbert

I have since sold the gun, it is a 45,1911, with a Burris plate, worked fine for me .I still the plate for sale
Gives you a idea on the look, and you can pull it off and slide the open sight back on it you want.

EGW has a vast assortment of mounting plates to fit various sight cuts

though I see CSC has a Burris to fit my novak-cut, thanks for the tip

You can order an optic ready slide from Brownells in the US and have it shipped to you, super easy to do, the only drawback is it may sit at customs for a month or three lol. They are cheap, but are excellent quality, just throw a parts kit, barrel etc in when it arrives and you are good to go. They are milled for an RMR so many Holosun optics will mount directly also. You could also have your existing slide milled for whichever optic you like, I had my buddy mill my gen4 G19 for a Vortex Venom. Any competent machinist can mill it for you, or send it off to Black Box, Dlask Arms etc to mill for you.IMG_0588.jpg

Since it's a public forum where lots of people come for information:

I think I remember reading somewhere that a shop needs to be licensed in order to work on firearms. Can anyone confirm? If so, would this kind of milling fall into that category? Or no, because it's not the frame?

IRG may have some optic ready slides which would be convenient and avoids the customs issue. Some canadian retailers have them from time to time as well. Milling the Glock slide is also a pretty standard procedure these days. Personally I would not mill the CZ, but it is feasible.

Never a bad idea to check with them, I seem to remember they had those PSA complete slides not long ago, also site sponsor Saskatoon Gunworks carry the Nomad slides which are Gen5 compatible

Thank you all for your opinions.
I have decided not to modify the CZ. It will remain an open sights gun. As for the Glock, I will try to buy an optic ready slide in order to have the choice to return it to its original state if I want.
I also may put a red dot on my Ruger Mark IV but that is easy as it comes with a picatiny rail.
