Last year, I bought my kid a Red Rider BB gun for goofing around. He uses my Papoose when we're out in the bush.
The Red Rider I bought last year was a piece of junk. It broke a week later, I sent it back and was given another one. This new one didn't even work out of the box. I got my money back and went with a Crossman Backpacker. Nice pellet gun, however my son still wants the Red Rider.

Has anyone bought a Red Rider THIS year from Basspro? They are on sale for 30 bucks.
Do they work?
Thanks

There is a reason they are 30 bucks....

My nephew is 5 yrs old and in the next little bit I want to get him one but what you have said doesn't sound good.

I bought my nephew a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas that I got from TSC. We tried it out that day, and it worked fine. It has a wooden stock and forearm, and to my surprise, a crossbolt safety beside the trigger. That gun retailed for around $75, but they were on sale for half price just before Xmas.

You must have got a cheap knockoff,
mine is a Red RYDER and shoots very well.:p
Mind you, it was made in 1948. KD

I bought one for my kids about 3 years ago. It piled up after about a year. I was gonna get them a good quality pellet rifle till I checked out the prices on high powered pellet rifles. I settled on a henry youth model lever .22. It works great, and is fun as heck to shoot. I didn't like the BB gun much. To many BB's coming straight back at the kids.

I bought one for my son for xmas. So far so good. The barrel band is loose but I just pushed it up hard.

I use 2'X2' pieces of cardboard about 10 layers thick duct taped tightly together, Staples target to the middle. NO RICOCHETS

BB's should only be shot into soft tarets............& pop cans:ar15::D

I just bought one to chuck on the backseat of the truck for campfire shooting contests and whatnot. Works great. Took a few hundred shots to loosen up the spring a bit, and it'll periodically not feed if I over fill the reservoir, but other than that it's peachy. Pretty accurate too, by dime-a-dozen BB gun standards.

Well, so far the reveiws are 2 good to 2 bad for this years model.
I'm still on the fence on whether to buy one or not.
To "Mount Sweatness", I bought a Backpacker 2 years ago and it's been a fun toy for the cottage. The only problem is that it's hard to pump up for my son.
I want a working Red Rider like the one I had as a kid.
It's was a great little lever rifle for a kid.
I just don't want to go though the BS of returning a crap product (again).

Send daisy an email, I did. if more people did this they would still have steel levers and work out of the box.
