Hey guys,

I sold my nice, reliable RCBS dies today to a cousin who's just starting up with reloading. (Also sold him a bunch of other stuff!)

So now I need a new set of .308 dies. I use my .308 dies for my precision rifle reloading, and have been told over the years that Redding is the way to go.

What should I buy, and who's got them in stock??

Forester- bonanza makes the cheapest benchrest seater, it is just as accurate as the redding one, just not as well made.

If you want just normal type dies, buy Redding. If you want higher quality dies with little runout and a benchrest seater, but the forester-bonanza bench rest set.

If you want the best, or repaceable button neck sizing, sholder dies ... buy the redding competion dies. Depending on what you want, this will cost over 200$ can.

Don't buy RCBS competion dies, they are expensive and crap.

I have bought all sorst of dies and have to say Redding are the nicest and do a superb job. I like the fact that they send an extra decapping pin as well as a small allen key with their regular dies.
I have found that Lyman, Lee, RCBS get the job done but lack in quality compared to Redding.

Cheers!!

You should buy the Type S - Match bushing neck die set . It gives you the bushing system ( the only way to go ! ) in a neck sizing die , body die, and the competition seating die ( with the micrometer ). Once you use the seating die you won't be able to use the RCBS / Hornady etc

The variation of the different neck wall thicknesses in 308 win brass ( since there are so many different brands ) will amaze you and give you appreciation on the neck bushing system

You only work the brass neck as much as you need, unlike standard non bushing dies

You can also get the bushing die in a full size but for the extra $30 ( neck sizing with body die set ) you are better off having your bushing die a neck only and use a body die for your ocassional FL resizing

The next step up is the Competition Bushing Neck Die Kit. The difference with this is the bushing die has a micrometer adjustment of how much the neck gets sized. I found with mine that I seldom change it ( unlike the seating die which I change all the time ) so for me it was an nice to have but not a necessity

What is a necessity is Redding makes as an option a carbide sizing button. This way you need little / no lube on the INSIDE neck

Why are you using a sizing button, when you are using bushings to set the neck dia.? You should decap with no button, or an undersized button that doesn't touch the neck, or just use a standard die.
