Has anyone tried these out as I see they are available for standard or vld bullets. A lot cheaper than buying a completion seating die.
Thanks

The micrometer adjustable seat g plugs are cheaper than a competition seating die, but they are not the same, as they don't have the sliding sleeve to maintain alignment. However they are handy when experimenting with seating depth.

That is the reason I am looking at them I have the standard die set already and these are a lot cheaper than buying the competition seater. Thanks for the replys

It's even cheaper to buy the Forster benchrest seater die vs the Redding and you will have true inline seating.

Below it is the sliding sleeve that holds the case and bullet in perfect alignment.

Why have a micrometer adjustment on a seating die that can allow the bullet to tip off center when seating.

I looked at this too Willy.

As Ed has stated above, I went with the Forster for the reasons stated. Really happy with them...actually have a hard time believing I can produce "that" so to speak.

Jerry or X-reload is what I'd recommend for vendors if you go that way. Jerry's got excellent product use knowledge.

I have the premium Redding kit, it was my understanding that the micrometer seating die that came with it was not VLD. However the VLD micrometer stem that I bought recently seems to make run out slightly worse. I have emailed Redding, they claim the VLD mic stem has an extra groove near the threads that screw into the die. I can't see any difference, so I sent them a comparison picture this evening, hopefully they get back to me tomorrow. I will put up some pics in a bit.

When loading vld bullets with a standard seating plug has anyone had issues with leaving a ring around the bullet where the plug seems to dig in. Is there a easy fix for this and does the vld seater eliminate this. I am thinking this does not help the run out issue.

I've got a few sets of Forster benchrest dies and they are great and priced pretty good.

I keep hearing about how the Forester or Bonanzana or the RCBS Gold Medal are the real deal. Trouble is, I've got those seaters and my Reddings still stubbornly seat straighter ammo. I don't know whats going with that, but I've got no particular reason to cheer for one or the other.

Ok, in regards to my earlier post, to determine if you have an actual VLD micrometer seating plug. If you screw the micrometer clockwise all the way, It will reveal the number. In my case its 7 on both of them. The VLD mic seater needs to have a ring machined around it in that area someplace. My VLD one is in fact packaged wrong, or somebody switched them out. I have a new one on order. Maybe that ring info will help someone else.

Willy, I have read some people modify the seater so a VLD will not bottom out but I saw a good video yesterday showing a Forster accepting pretty much any bullet with nice fitment. I will see how well this VLD Redding stem works when I get it. ( My non VLD Redding seater does not leave a ring on my 143 ELDx's )
