ReddNob Tuna Can

Anyone ever try the limbsaver rubber "#### ring" type barrel tuner? :) I picked one up cheap on amazone recently but I haven't tried it yet. Not nearly as fine tunable and repeatable but I thought I'd play around with it shooting .22lr and experiment with cheap barrel harmonic manipulation.

I have a LS Deresonator. It makes a 3/16" (at 50yrd) difference on factory pencil barrel like the Savage MK2.
Didn't see much on the CZ457 with a 24" tappered threaded barrel (0.78" dia) and could not physicaly get it on the 16" bull barrel but I doubt it would make any difference.

On the MK2 free floating factory pencil barrel the best results were obtained when the deresonator was pushed all the way back to the foregrip.
After seeing that I put a pressure pad at the tip of the forend using epoxy putty.

The whole experience made me feel that pencil barrels dont float well and need a pad like the 10/22 has built in.
I also free floated a 10/22 sporter and accuracy got much worse so I replaced the pressure pad I had sanded away with epoxy and typical 10/22 accuracy returned. I guess, don't float ur pencil barrels.

I'm getting one on Monday. I'll post goups.
It's coming from a friend who has the same CZ457 Pro Varmit with a 16" bull barrel I have.

My friend says it dosen't do much on the 16" bull barrel but I also have a 24" tapered threaded barrel and I'm going to try it on that.

My 16" barrel likes SK Rifle Match and does not like CCI SV.

The 24" barrel likes the CCI SV (1.1 - 1.3" at 100yrd, five shots) so I'm hopping to 'tune' so that CCI SV performs the same as SK Rifle Match does at 100 and 200.

SKRM groups are 0.5 - 1.3" at 100 yrds and about 6" at 200. CCI is about 10" at 200.

I also have the CZ in an Oryx chassis. It's on lone but I can test with it for a while. Then I'll go back to the Boyds Pro Varmit laminated stock and test again.

I have one that I got last Winter, only tried it a couple times (lotsa snow at the range this year) on my Sav-A22 pencil barrel for a couple 5x-groups. With Fed A-M the group went from ca 1.5-2" without ring to ca 1" with. I didn't mark the barrel but one could using soapstone or such - or just measure and record. I had the tuner about 1.5" back from the muzzle. For ca $12 compared to $200, worth trying . . .

I just looked on A-ss-zon.ca and these are now $22 + !! I had bought mine in 2020 for $11 ! Double the price in 18 months ! I checked other things I'd ordered in the past yea and ALL have gone up - LOTS. Maybe a good sporting goods store may have them for less ??

I have an MTU stainless barrel on a Vudoo and the Insite tuner has turned a so so lot of Center X into a very respectable ammo out of my gun. I believe that all barrels occilate to some degree when bullets travel down them. No doubt the shorter fatter barrels are much stiffer which is why most bench guns have shorter pipes. Only with high speed photography or specialized equiptment can it be proven and its been done many times. Top or bottom of the sine wave is what gives the best accuracy because the barrels is temporarily stopped while transitioning from going up to going down the curve. The tuner simply allows tuning the curve till the bullet exits the barrel at the same place in the curve consistently. I know this will be argued but tuners have been used by many very proficient shooters with great results and my experience has been more than positive!

Dedicated rimfire BR rifle barrels are usually not considered short. They are typically 23 - 26 inches in length. Diameters also vary, with .900" very common. Slim barrels are not used.

Tuners can indeed be very effective in improving the performance of good ammo. One of the most important factors in finding the best tuner setting is to use ammo that gives good and consistent results. When ammo performance is inconsistent, it's impossible to know if results are the product of the ammo or the tuner. I

Your correct and I was making reference to centerfire bench guns. My bad. Also correct about ammo and tuners. results with ammo must be consistent or nothing can be proven. Lapua that was giving average of .535 shrunk down to average of .315 is results that had me smiling. Shooting friends have remarked my gun seems louder than it was before shooting the same ammo.
