hey guys,
newbie help needed please. I am trying to put my redfield illuminator i just picked up, on my savage 111 30-06. I bought it originally as a combo with a bushnell already on it. The rails on right now wont fit the redfield, how do i know which ones would fit and where could i find them, ( i tried good but didnt know which ones i need) Im also concerned that longer rails may cover the loading port. hope that doesnt mean i cant use this scope. hope you guys can help. thanks!

I have the 111 FCNS and had to get and weaver extended base for my redfield works like a charm no ejection issues. I believe its the 48429 from weaver. Wholesale has em as well.

This is the correct info to solve your problem if you wish use Weaver style rings. This Weaver part #48429 is known as the 402M (M standing for matte). This is a front extension base that will allow you to put a shorter body scope on your Savage as the base mounting positions are fairly wide appart. I also suggest that you get a #48504, 61-M that replaces your rear base. Even though this looks almost exactly like the base that may have come with your rifle, there are slight dimensional differences that may impact sighting in. If you can't find theses localy...we have tham in stock at $6 each. Good luck. Phil.

The 111 FCNS and the 111 package gun the OP is talking about use different receivers do they not?

Will they accept the same bases?

What kind of savage do you have exactly?

There are different version of the receiver. Some have flat tops, some don't. Some accomodate an accu-trigger, some do not. Some will work in an accu-stock, some will not.

There are at least three different versions of the Savage 111 receiver. I know for a fact that the 111FCPX and the 111FCNS have different ones as one has an accu-trigger and the other doesn't.

Whether that affects the top of the receiver, I don't know.

In Le Baron catalogue they have a Millett 20 moa picinaty rail, i did put one up for a friend who could not fit is Redfield Revolution 4X12X40... work perfect and look good, 42.00... JP.

First, Phil's advice is incorrect as I thought it was.

I picked up the 402 and 61 bases that Phil recommended today (3.97 at WSS, 6 at P&D).

First, the 402 is literally twice as thick/high as the factory bases so you will DEFINITELY require a new rear base.

Unfortunately, the 61 is absolutely not the correct base. It is for a rear flat top receiver. Savage stopped making these around the time they split the 110 receiver into the 10/110 short action/long action. Not even the pre-accutrigger models have a flat rear bridge...and they haven't for more than a decade.

Additionally, the 402 and 61 bases Phil recommends are completely different thicknesses.

It looks like 46 is the correct rear base.

The #402 should be the correct Extension Base for your Savage. The "old" style receiver used a #46 on the front and a #61 on the rear. If the receiver rings are the same diameter then both front and rear require a #46. It sounds like you need a #402 and a #46 to allow your Redfield fit. If there is still not enough room, use two #402's.
