Finally tried out my CZ 527 a few days ago with a Redfield 3-9x50 and I was disappointed with the sponginess of the turrets. Sighting it in was a chore. I find the optics to be adequate, but the turrets are starting to bother me.

How does a Nikon compare?

Thanks.

I have I Redfield varsity 4x12x40 on a mini 14 and its OK, I have a Nikkon on at Weatherby 300 Mag and it's clearer and has better adjustments but the BDC recticle I am not a fan of. I also have a Vortex HSLR 4x16x44 and a PST6x24x50 and I love them both. I doubt I doubt I would by Redfield again, I would buy Nikkon and Vortex. Next scope will be a sightron S3, Or Bushnell Tactical elite in FFP. If money is Tight it will be another PST FFP

I recently "retired" my old 25 year old Leupold Vari II that was mounted on my old faithfull Remington 700 .338WM and replaced it with a Nikon Monarch 3 2.5-10X42.
The clarity is impressive, and I personally like the BDC reticle. I boresighted it, and it took me 3 shots to zero it in. I have fired many rounds since and now shooting inside a Toonie with it, preparing for my upcoming moose/elk hunt.
Cabelas has these at $499.99. Bought mine at Canadian Tire 3 weeks ago. Retail was $386.99, and got it on sale for $326.98...not bad!

Sent my Leupold in for warranty work. Believed the old girl developed a leak after all these year. So will use it on another rifle upon return...maybe.

Impressed with the Nikon quality and price so far, and I believe if you test drive one, you will also...Good Luck.

In my limited experience with both brands, I have found that Nikon quality seems to trump that of Redfield. However (again based on limited experience with them...), Nikon customer/warranty service was among the worst that I have ever dealt with; bad enough that they have seen the last of my money. I have heard that they have improved in this regard, but I have better things to do with my time and my cash than give them another chance when there are companies like Leupold, Burris and Bushnell who take excellent care of their customers.

I seem to recall reading that Leupold owns Redfield now? That makes this choice a no-brainer IMHO.

After buying my first Nikon Monarch, I now have 3 of them on various rifles. Good glass for the price, especially in low light. I personally like the BDC and it works perfect for holdovers on my .270 and K31. Last year my rifle fell out of my gun boot going about 30kph on a quad - the scope got slightly scratched but held zero perfect.

Prophet River has all Nikons on sale this weekend - no tax and free shipping.

I have a redfield on one of my rifles... It's an ok scope. Glass is fair, but I find the adjustments are pretty spongy on mine as well. I've mounted and sighted in a whole bunch of Nikon prostaff's, and the glass is a bit clearer, and the adjustments are much better.

I haven't had any experience with a Redfield besideds shouldering a friends rifle that was equipped with one, and it seemed like a decent scope. Nikon on the other hand, has become my favourite brand of scopes. I haven't spent the cash on a Monarch yet, but I do have two Rimfire Prostaffs that are incredible quality for the money and are all around an excellent scope. I also just purchased a Prostaff 5 2.5-10x40 scope to throw on my Browning BAR 300 WM once it is done being refinished. I'm curious to see how it handles the punishment of 300 WM recoil and if it will hold zero. But the glass is superb, very clear, forgiving eye relief eye box, smooth focus and zoom rings and click adjustments are very positive. I love it already and haven't fired a shot!
