Reduced Loads

Still trying to find H4895 to make some reduced 6.5CM loads for a friend's daughter, has anyone used IMR4895 instead? I am hearing mixed answers on whether the IMR is safe with reduced loads.

I'd suggest contacting Hodgdon directly and ask them the question. They've been great at answering my questions every time I've called them.

Yes, many many people have used imr4895 powder for reduced loads. The differences between them are insignificant for this purpose.

I went through this last year with making reduced loads for my .243. I ended up just getting some trail boss. Some 80 grain speers over a pinch of that stuff made for a lot of fun.

I'm loading 100gr partitions and BT's over 30gr of IMR4895 for my daughter. I haven't chronied them yet, but should be around 2500. Hardly any recoil in her LW Storm.

I download IMR4895 to 70% of a published max load in several cartridges. If you have Quickload you can get an idea of a charge weight and pressure/velocity. I like to keep pressure above 30k, 35k is better.
