Hey folks,

I am still a relative newb when it comes to pistols and I am looking to reduce the trigger pull on my Gen 3 Glock 17. It is currently factory at 5.5lbs and I was thinking of getting it down to 3.5lbs.

I have found the Lone Wolf 3.5 lb Connector ( http://www.hical.ca/apps/webstore/products/show/2854278 ) I am wondering if I need to go the route of a whole trigger replacement or if this will do. The other thing I was looking to do is add Wolff 5lb trigger spring (http://www.hical.ca/apps/webstore/products/show/2854286 ) is this needed to get what I am looking for.

Also for those who are in IPSC how will this affect where I can compete?

Thanks,
Chef.

If you put in the Lone Wolf Connector and the Wolff spring you'll be in either Standard or Open.

Only Glock factory internals are allowed in IPSC. Get the "minus" connector and leave the springs alone.

Upgrade your sights - the Warren Tactical/Dave Sevigny competition/carry set is popular.

If you're new to handguns and by your request for a lighter trigger you are. You need to seek professional training and spend more time on the fundamentals. The stock trigger is more than acceptable.

As for changing springs and this changing classes/divisions. Who would know?

Ummm.... the first time he shoots in a bigger match where the Production class guns are checked for trigger pull weight?

Besides if someone "cheats" who are they really cheating?

Chef, I was under the impression that Glock factory triggers are heavier than 5.5 lbs for pull. Have you actually measured the pull on your gun or are you going by web lore when you state that your gun is 5.5?

Thanks for your ever useful advice TDC. I have shot it long enough and other pistols to know what I like and don't like. I found Glock Minus connectors, but does anyone know where to find them in Canada.

Again your lack of skill is showing. Its not about what you like its about mastering the fundamentals. If you had/have the stock trigger wouldn't be an issue.

As for parts in country. You'll be hard pressed to find any. Order from the USA.

I appreciate your point, TDC: While it's relatively long and heavy, there's nothing inherently wrong with the stock Glock trigger, and mastering it will make you a better shooter. I agree that probably too many people lighten the trigger on their Glocks without thinking about why they shouldn't. But not everyone shoots for the reasons you do. My shooting gear and technique IS about what I like. Improving my skills is secondary to having a hell of a good time in the limited time that I have for pistol shooting.

I lightened the trigger on my Glock. I also use lightweight running shoes for running long distances, even though I could do it in combat boots, and even though suffering through that training would make me a stronger runner eventually.

But I think TDC is definitely right on the money about better availability from US-based internet retailers. While any Canadian Glock dealer should be able to get the minus connector (I think it's still the OEM part in the long slide Glocks), you might find it's a longer wait than you'd like.

An interim option might be to try the 25 cent trigger job. Smoother often feels lighter, and it's definitely easier to control, regardless of the weight. FWIW, all of the stock Glocks I've handled have had a trigger weight higher than the advertised 5.5lbs.

Ive had my Glock 17 Gen 4 for almost a year now, and I just got a Glock 34 Gen 4 about a month ago. The 34 is advertised by Glock as a competition model and therefore comes with a lighter trigger pull than the rest of the model line, but I never noticed the difference. In the last few weeks I have upgraded my 34 with the 3.5lb connector and firing pin spring, as well as a the competition trigger spring. I still didnt notice much difference.

I decided to try out a new trigger that I bought a while back for my 17, but I want to stay in Production class with it so I saved it for the 34. It is a new trigger and trigger bar and is adjustable as well. In my opinion, the biggest difference you will get from a Glock trigger is one that eliminates 90% of the pre-travel(slack) and most of the over-travel as well. Once this baby went in my shooting gained a noticeable improvement. But non of this has stopped any bad habits or poor trigger manipulation that comes when Im not paying attention.

For me, the best thing the new trigger has done, is that it gave me more confidence and more reason to practice more until I can master the Glock trigger.

Follow up question, is using a glock part better than using say an aftermarket 3.5lbs connect like ghost or some other brand.

If you want to be IPSC compliant, then there is no other choice.

"Better" is pretty subjective. I've used Zev Tech, Ghost, and Glock connectors. If you want to go light, I'd pick the Zev Tech "race" connector, titanium striker, and light springs - just changing the connector won't get you "light".

If you are just changing the connector, go with the Glock "minus" connector. You'll be IPSC compliant and there's not a significant difference from the others.

So Glock connector it is. Does changing the springs keep me in compliance with IPSC, while I am not quite ready for IPSC yet, I do want to make sure I don't screw myself.

It's actually a 3.5# connector.

Sorry, wasn't clear. I was talking about the trigger pull weight. The 3.5 connector only knocks like a pound or so off the factory pull, whatever that may be. I always thought the 3.5 disconnect/connector (what ever you want to call it) would put you trigger pull weight around 4.5-5lbs. I'm certainly no Glock expert, so take it for what it's worth.

In my opinion, nothing wrong with the stock trigger. Just need to spend some time with them.

Don't change the springs.

I don't think Glock produces a "light" spring. My G34 has (I believe) the same striker spring as my G17. The G34 is configured as the Glock "competition" pistol, therefore I don't believe there to be a lighter, factory stiker spring.

If you go for aftermarket springs (outside of fact that this would "bump" you out of Production), the resultant trigger weight could be less than 5 lbs (actual pull weight).

i can measure my G17 pull weight with my Lyman gauge tonight and post the results here. My G17 is fitted with a minus connector and factory springs.
