Hey guys,

Looked through the Sticky's and tried a search, but the mobile app's search function leaves a lot to be desired...

I've had a logo laser-engraved into a stripped SKS stock, and I'd like to refinish it similar to factory.
Can anyone provide any tips, or links o another thread.

Thanks

This guy's refinish turned out nicely. Couldn't figure out how to post the whole link but there it is broken up

The original finish for a Russian SKS is Amber, Orange or Blonde shellac. Typically Amber (9/10 times).

Shellac is super easy to work with, strip, blend, etc. Thin layers or a French polish would be the ticket.

woodessence.com is a Canadian shellac retailer and I've had positive experiences with them.

I use Circa 1850 gel around the house and tried it on my SKS gas tube wood. It had cracked when I removed it for the ATI stock so I glued it first. I only wiped it on and off a few times so the stain wasn't all removed. For some reason I see a lot of these are darker than the rest of the stock and I wanted mine to be a closer match, which it now is. Two coats of varnish so far, might do another two down the road. Looks better it the original wood than plastic.

PS - Just checked the above link...didn't know Circa 1850 came in a spray can. Might have to grab one.
