I’m looking at a mechanically sound, 7.5” .44 Special New Service that was reblued to a matte blue. I’m only interested in it as a shooter. He wants $1175, but I’m thinking in the $800’s at most. Am I off the mark?
What do you think it’s worth?

A few years back I got a WW1 Colt New Service in .455 with about 60% finish still left on it with an excellent bore for $500. Not sure if the 7.5" barrel length is more desirable but a refinished gun should not be going for $1175.

It's worth what you are willing to pay to shoot it, or whatever offer he turns down to keep it, whichever is higher. I don't think a collector wants a re-blued gun, so I think he won't get $1175 before some more years of our dollar value being degraded, but I don't know how uncommon that gun is in .44Special.

(I gave $650, if I recall correctly, for a New Service in .455 Eley with a five-and-a-half-inch barrel with original finish, worn, and good bore to just shoot.)

The .44 Special is a plus.
But what was it like before it was refinished?
Doubt I would consider $800.

Is it a Colt? Is it a S&W? Doubtless, its not a WW1 or WW2 production gun. Im guessing fixed sights too, skinny barrel?

Pics would help, plus a way better description. Details, man.....

It is a Colt New Service.
In .44 Special it would be a commercial revolver, not issue.

He said colt, But that price sound out of line, depending on what model of New Service, But a mat blue ( sandblasted ,I bet ) will have no collector value.
So what is a 44 special shooter worth, a exc. S-W would be about 900-1000.oo , and it will hold its value.
A gun like that would have to checked out for spec .and timing. I would not look at that at all.

If the timing and lockup is good along with bore condition and chambers, you said it's got a matt finish already. So if this is true and there's no missing/broken/bent parts his asking price is pretty fair.

Myself I have never heard of an inaccurate 44 Special revolver. You being interested in only shooting it does nothing to knock down his asking price.

Numrich had cylinders and barrels made in commercial calibers, aimed at the Surplus market btw. They were still available around Y2K.
