Refinishing a 1911

I have an old argentine military 1911 from the 40's and you can really tell its age...all scuffed up and such. is it possible to have it refinished, maybe even in black?

I guess, if it were mine, I would have it parkarized and look for some descent grips. I have no idea of why Argentina put such crappy looking grips on their military handguns? Regards, Richard

Actually doesn't look too bad. Personally, I'd just give it a good detail strip & clean. Then, just ditch the crappy grips for some nice brown plastic USGI replacements & it would look 100% better without too much outlay.

Theres a guy in Windson that does the most amazing park and restoration work I have ever seen. His parkerizing is fantastic and he's a licensed smith etc etc.

I heard that the guns were made from armour plate of a sunk WWI german ship. Supposed to be good steel. Myth?

Anything done to it other than changing the grips (keep the old ones) would spoil the pistol. It will never be a race gun, so why ruin it?

For not much more than a re-finishing you can buy a Norinco, install some better sights, tune up the existing trigger and have a shooter and 2 pistols, one of which will appreciate in value.
