Hi

I am refinishing a Boyds laminted stock and am looking for a finish that is both durable and that can be repaired. Prefer a matte finish but I am looking for a product that will not cause the wood laminate to bleed and change colour as its a Salt and Pepper stock and have heard that some products cause it to turn a green/amber and black. I have done a search but could find anything on Laminates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I did an electric blue laminate with Casey's Tru Oil in a matte finish a few months back. Used seven coats of oil, cutting each back with 0000 steel wool between coats. Rubbed the last coat out with Casey's Stock Sheen and Conditioner a few times. It worked out quite nicely with no bleeding or such...here's a crappy pic, but it's all I have:

Another vote for tru-oil. Lots of coats, and if you use the Sheen (or even lightly buff with 0000 wool) you will get a nice satin finish.

That sounds promissing will look into true oil, Is the stuff that birchwood casey sells the true oil everone is referring to ?

Flecto Varanthane Number 66 Oil Finish

Flecto Varanthane Number 66 Oil Finish I can highly recommend. Very easy to use... waterproof as well... good for exterior use...

This is a Remington stock I completely stripped and refinished with it.

You are probably correct. I purchased it here with the original wood on it and it came with the unfinished semi-fitted laminate. Man, that thing was anything but a microfit...took a lot of work to fit it properly. I ended up bedding it with Devcon Titanium too....it sure does shoot though...

I used a wipe on poly to do a camo laminate...no bleeding, no coloring. easy to apply, good hard finish, and should be simple to repair when the need arises.

A little off topic but...
Hey Dennis - what's filling the endcaps of the reinforcing crosspins on that stock you refinished? Is that two part expoxy dyed dark somehow? I've been lookin for black two part epoxy for the same thing but haven't sourced any. Any comments on this.
