My FS 522 stock is cheap softwood,so traditional finishes aren't an option.I don't see any replacement stocks on Boyds website,so its going to come down to DIY.I have some left over West System epoxy so am thinking of using that(the stock had been stripped down and sanded)then an over coat of Krylon epoxy paint,or appliance epoxy paint. All the information on stock refinishing assumes hardwood, but this is softwood, but the west system epoxy results in a hard tough finish,if my stitch and glue boat is any guide
Any thoughts?

...i use that epoxy on my boat builds too! ...i think it'd work well ...i wonder if there's a way to thin it a bit so that it might soak in?

...hope you post pics?

clear fiberglass epoxy resin over the finished and stained wood should work well. I did this in some pistol grips ages ago. They were virtually indestructible after. A couple of thin coats works better than a thick gloppy mess of one coat. Ask me how I know :)

try it out on a sample piece of wood first and see what you think

i didn't think epoxy would go over stained wood....but I did Google it and it appears SOME stains are comparable with west system epoxy
