Hey guys,
I don't own a sand blaster and don't plan on using one. Wondering what the best way to strip the paint...400 grit sand paper? Should I use some paint stripper?

Thanks.

Dan

Yeah. I just bought a used one and the paint is pretty crappy and flaking off on the barrel. I guess I'll just sand, degrease and paint. Any more advice would be appreciated.

My paint on the used one I got was flaking and looked/felt like pure :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:e.
It was on tough and stuck very well in the places that it wasn't flaking though.

Ask around, everyone knows someone who knows someone who works in a mechanic shop or machining shop that has a small little contained blaster stand.

Where are located? I may be able to help if you are close enough.

Thanks buddy! I live in laval Qc. I really don't know anyone that has a blaster at all. I refinished my Grizly just by sanding a degreasing and painted it with some duracoat and worked great. Since the cz has a lot more nooks and crannies, I was thinking maybe there was a better trick. Lol

I would check in an auto parts store for automotive paint stripper or maybe paint stripper for furniture could work well also. let the stripper work and remove paint with medium steel wool and a little bronze or steel brush could work in tight spots

'nuff said.

Look-up "murdoc" on this site. He does some amazing work, for alot less than you might think. He also sells fully refinished 858's. All parts are bead blasted, parkerized, and then Arma-coated, inside and out. There's a number of colours to choose from. He's done two of my shooter SKS's, and the finishes are truly something to behold, and super durable.

You'll have a very hard time without sandblasting. The lower HG ferrule and cutout will be almost impossible to sand along with many other areas. Sandblasting makes it easy. Search around locally to see if someone has one you can use or sandblast it for you. It also makes an ideal surface for paint to bond to.

Small world Sir, I grew up in St Eustache/Deux Montagnes lol

The best way would definitely be to sandblast it.
I'm sure it could be done with chemicals and wire brushes/steel wool but it would be an arm breaking nightmare lol

The sand blast takes literally 5 minutes and it's down to shiny silver coloured cheap communist metal.

In order to get the new finish to stick well, you have to blast it really well, then varsol it to get all the oil out of her, then brake clean to get it fully sterilized.
I used spray on/heat bake dura bake to finish mine.

You can send it away to Armacoat for "custom" parkerizing but it's expensive as hell plus shipping etc. CZ's are already way too overpriced for a cheap military surplus gun that cost 2 ruples to stamp out lol. That's just my 2 cents though.

I'm doing an AK look alike. My brother is making me custom furniture.
I'll post pics when they are all together after Christmas very soon

Thanks for the advice...I guess I'll try and see if loutech or other places has some to rent.

Or I might take a whole day off and do it manually...hehe
