refinishing my 870

i bought a used 870 and the blueing is just about gone im looking for ideas on the best way to "refinish" it giving it a matte finish

well i would suggest good old rattle can krylon matte black but i know some people dont approve of it so you got tactical ordnance http://www.tacord.com/index.htm and arma-coat http://www.arma-coat.ca/frame.cfm?WebpageID=1 both do very nice refinishing jobs for i guess a some what reasonable price.

krylon will wear really fast especially around any moving parts (IE magtube from the pump)

I just cold blued mine with a $5 dollar bottle of blue

Send it to "Murdoc" - you can have it stripped and either Parkerized or Armacoated, the Armacoat finish is very nice.

bah, why refinish?
a beat-up shotgun with worn blueing looks awesome.

cold blue offers zero corrosion resistance and has the potential of leaving a streaky/uneven finish. IMHO its only useful for tiny touchups.

if i were to refinish one of my 870s i would just parkerize it.

I dont know what OP paid, but mine was $150 used, spending the same amount to refinish would just be redundant

I would look into one of those custom paint jobs I have read about in CGN's "Black and Green Rifles" section. Look at LMT Paint Job CGN member, geleavitt

Has anyone ever powder coated one? Would it be durable enough not to scratch easily?
