Id like to have a slide of a 1911 laser engraved eventually. Will cerokote hide it all or is bluing still the best option? Id have it professionally done either way. I want a nice even black shine

I want it lazer engraved and then have the finish restored. The guy that will do the engraving says it will ruin the original blueing. I want to know if i send the slide out to be cerokoted is it thin enough to show the engraving or if it will cover it. If itll hide the engravings ill just send it out to be blued

Of course it will ruin the bluing. The laser burns the bluing away.

Scratching your drivers license number in with a nail will ruin the bluing too.

You get to choose between having the laser engraving visible, or having the bluing. Your call.

Unless the guy has something besides a bog standard engraving laser, the depth of the engraving will be pretty much unmeasurable. Putting paint, other than maybe some clear laquer or nail polish, over it to 'repair' the bluing, will just cover it all up. As will re-bluing it.

If you want engraving that will show under those circumstances, you pretty much need to talk to a real engraver, instead of someone that prints pictures on stuff with a laser.
