I was at the range the other day when a scope issue on my AR-15 kind of put an end to my session -- repaired now but was very aggravating at the time.

So I've decided that I want a back-up optic (I have no love for iron sights, I have some BUIS for the AR-15 but won't use them) and want to go with a reflex RDS. I have a Burris FastFire 3 on my Vz.58 that I love and use for steel plinking but I would rather not spend $350-400 on an optic that will likely see very little usage.

So I throw it out to the hive mind: What kind of decent reflex RDS in a similar low-profile body as the FastFire 3 can I get for less than $250.

If it has to be another Burris FastFire 3, so be it but I'd rather save some money on something I don't really need.

fast fire is too low for an AR, you will need a riser. get a Holosun. inexpensive, rugged, manufacturer for Sig Romeo sights, great warranty, awesome battery life, even on the non solar models.

Holosun with riser is great if you want a separate unit to swap out when the primary optic fails, but if you are looking for a secondary sight mounted on top of the scope or offset then fastfire (or similar mini sight) is best bet.

For cheaper option the Bushnell First strike is half the price...and not bad...I have one as a secondary Sight offset to 45 degrees on an AR and it holds zero. It's primary use is for close range as the dot is rather large (5 MOA I believe) but it works well for that and in a pinch I could still shoot out longer distances, but accuracy would suffer.
