Reforming 30-06 to 7x57

Lets clear one thing up quick I DO NOT OWN a 30-06 nor does anyone i shoot with now that that safety concern is gone has anyone with success reformed 30-06 brass to 7x57 and if so RCBS sells a reforming tool and cutter for 30-06 Springfield to 7x57

does anyone here have experience in doing this if so did it jam in your die much or did you have to give it a healthy coat in case lube ?

I have also heard .270 will work is this true ?
 
I've done a similar resizing job. It was alot of work and not worth the small savings. I'd just look for some 7mm Mauser brass instead.

You may have to turn the necks or ream them when all is said and done, I'd just get new 7X57 cases or 6mm/.257 Roberts if you can't find the others.
 
I made a few 7x57 cases from 30-06 & 270 brass many years ago. While it is possible to do, it is a lot of work, and you will lose some cases to neck folds unless you are very, very careful.
As one poster mentioned, neck reaming may be necessary once you are done as well.
I deem it a hard way to get 7x57 cases in this day and age. Eagleye.
 
Well thing is I can't find 7x57 in my town (Campbell river BC) the closest place is naniamo which is quite a hual so I have been surviving off of CGN once fired and reloading which Is ok but some times I let my friends shoot and they loose cases or the odd one the neck splits and my supPly is dwindling but there is a ton of 270 down here I mean absolutly every were this is why asked the work is no big a couple of beers and a good movie passes the time whole sizing and trimming and I have a descent electric trimmer so it's not rough on the hands the biggest concern was more jamming my sizing die
 
ive converted 30.06 to 8mm mauser and i felt that my shots were much better then the acctual factory rounds cut the case to 7mm first then with imperial wax slowly form the brass cut extras then run it in a full size dieand load and shoot away
 
To minimize neck "folds" or "creases" Avoid putting lube on the case where the new shoulder will be. The shoulder and neck will form just fine. Make sure you lube the body of the case [to avoid a stuck case] and the inside of the neck [so the expander withdraws easier]
I make 308 Norma Mag from 300 Win Mag all the time, and get perfect, creaseless shoulders every time by keeping lube off that shoulder area.

That tip about no lube on the neck or shoulder works well. I also have done 30/06 brass to 7x57, but agree it is not worth the work.
