I know it is a simple matter to for .308 cases to 7mm 08 buy running them into the sizer die. My question: Are pre-made 7mm 08 casings inherently more accurate than reformed .308 ( Assuming the same manufacturer and proper procedures ). I have a pile of excellent Norma brass in .308 and was wondering if it can produce the same results as purchased 7mm 08 brass.

I'd like to add to this question... when you resize brass, where does the extra brass go (or come from, depending if your sizing up or down I guess)???

i reform norma and lapua 308 to 7 08 and 358 with no problems. the 7 08 case is slightly longer than a 308, the slightly shorter case doesn't seem to affect acuracy in any way. the necks may be a little thicker an comercial 7 08 brass but most factory chambers are generus in size so again no problem.i reformbecause of avalibilty of norma brass. in 358 brass is very scarce. all in all the reformed brass is better than most bulk brass.

When going from .308 down to7-08 I have found it necessary to ID. ream case necks. The extra brass can make things a little tight when seating bullets. ( Although this seems to happen when using Millitary surplus brass, and Fedral GoldMedal brass.)
What has worked best for me was using .243 Winchester brass. Casses ended up kind of short, (about 3-5 thouunder min.) but were just right after 2firings.

Hope this helps.

Usually the brass flows forward, in some cases that means you have to trim off quite a bit. It depends on the case you are using and converting too, different for every cartridge.
For example, I resized a whole batch of 38-40 to 44-40, with no trimming or other problems at all. The brass simply stretched. No measurable diff in OAL either.

Really watch the neck thickness. When I've gone from 308 to 243 the necks NEED attention which is fine, better actually since you can then turn your necks to whatever you want. More work though. Do one and measure it.
