I wonder if anyone out there has real world experience reforming 270 brass into 25-06 brass? I understand 30.06 can be used but then the neck needs to be reamed because of the extra mat'l. Can a 270 be reformed and not need to ream the neck as the two original diameters are only 0.013" different.

I rework .308 for my son's 7-08 fairly regularly with no issues, I'm hoping the same is true of 25.06

Thanks in advance.

Back in the day when I was pinching my pennies to shoot, I resized lots of 270 and 30-06 brass to 25-06. Other than having to trim to length and set back the shoulders on some, there was never a problem with neck thickness. I actually thought for awhile that the thicker neck would help. In reality there wasn't a measurable difference.

One bit of advice though, anneal the neck and shoulders first. It will make the whole procedure a lot smoother and stop crushed necks and shoulders.

25-06

I found that 270 formed to 25-06 fine but had problems with 30-06 to 25-06 in one pass crushed to many cases.
formed 30-06 to 270 then on to 25-06 trimming along the way worked fine.

fun cases 30-06 headstamps actually 25-06 with new pal students putting the 2 cases beside each other lots of questions.Good learning experiance.

I use nothing but 30'06 cases for my 25'06.
I also found that although I neck turn there is so little difference from factory 25'06 to the necked down 30'06 in neck thickness, it is possible that at least Winchester in this case uses the same stock brass, and just necks it up or down as needed.
