Can anyone shed some light on the origins of this 1911? It was purchased from a person with no knowledge of it's history and has been refinished with almost all of the markings removed. All I can find are a "P" behind the mag release on left side, a "G" inside the receiver just behind the mag well and a "P" on the barrel lug. The right side of the slide is marked "COLT 45" above "W 30.###" for a serial number. This number is very faintly and poorly engraved on the opposite side of the slide but has been polished over. The serial number suggests a British contract WW1 era in .455, but I have no idea if this is the original number.
