Hey guys,

I purchased my pistol near the end of September, and I received the "transfer notification" and ATT dated for the 25th, however it is now Nov and I haven't received my registration certificate... This is unacceptable, but is it normal? I called the CFO and they said they don't handle that and that "Ottawa" sends it to me whatever that means. This seems like it has taken too long and that something is up. I want to take my pistol to the range, but I cant because even though I have the Reg # the ATT says I need the actual registration certificate to transport the firearm to the range... What a nightmare. All I can do is fondle it at home and remember fondly the one or two times I fired it at the range I bought it from before I took it home.

Anybody have this happen to them? What should I do if the CFO isn't any help?

I've never had my certificate take longer than a week, maybe ten days after the transfer is approved. I'd get on the phone to the CFC and yell, but politely.

Ya, something ain't right there. My certs usually arrive 2-3 weeks behind the NOT. They only print once per month as I understand the process.

I transport using a NOT. What the H, if it's good enough to take something home from the store, why not to/from range as well?

The NOT proves it's registered.

My last registration took exactly two weeks from when I paid the vendor for my pistol to when the registration cert showed up in my mailbox

Here's my time line
Gun was purchased and paid for on October 31st.
Transfer was received on November 3rd and Approved on November 4th
Registration Certificate was dated On November 11th (which is odd considering that's Remembrance Day)
And showed up in my mailbox yesterday November the 14th.

I agree with the sense of your statement with the NOT and I have no problem with it at all but is it strictly legal to transport a restricted to and from a range WITHOUT a proper reg cert in hand? Do we know for sure a NOT is enough?

I had purchased an an AR in June. I expected to get the registration certificate in the next 2 weeks as that was the longest that it ever took in my other restricted purchases. Afer 2 weeks passed, I called and was told that all certs were mailed from Ottawa and there was nothing they can do.
I was moving to another province on August 1 and still no cert. So I called the CFO and told them that I needed that cert.so I can get an STATT for moving day. They issued me an STATTand deleted the condition that says all restricted firearms must have the registration certificate with it during transport. One time deal only.

My certs usually take about a week on average. Only once did one of my certs take 3wks to show up. I called the CFO after the second week and they told me they'll put in a request to have another sent just in case the first was lost in the mail. Ended up getting two the following week.

was this by chance your first gun purchase on a new PAL...if so that might be something to do with it...my first handgun registration cert was six weeks...I was not a happy camper...sitting there in my safe and not able to go to the range with it...the rest of my certs have been much like everyone elses...usually 2 weeks...the first one was a real patience tester tho

...violent criminal record? :p...recently divorced?:p...undergone mental health treatment within the last 5 years?:p If you answered no to all of the aforementioned, the CFO f'ed up! ;)

If he received the transfer notice and the ATT , that means that both Miramichi and the provincial CFO approved it. If all he's missing is the actual new certificate then they either screwed up at Miramichi or it got lost in the mail.
