Registered Component on Pistol Question

Hey guys,

Got a rather noob question for ya'll.

I am doing a DIY competition pistol, and I just wanted to confirm. I believe the registered component on the handgun (Glock 17) is the serialized lower frame?

Is this correct, and does this hold true for all handguns of this type? The serial on the barrel or upper slide is irrelevant? I am not totally confident in the literature I am looking up online...

You are correct, the serial number is on the frame for both semi-autos and revolvers.
