I have a few questions in regards to registering a firearm.

If I purchase a firearm online do I have some time to register the firearm once I get it in the mail before I risk penalties of not having it registered?

Or is the firearm automatically registered to me during the transfer process?

And lastly is a transfer of ownership still done if you purchase a firearm online?

If you purchase it from a business they will take care of all the registration details.....registering it in your name.

If you purchase from a person...say on the EE or any other private deal. Either of you can initiate the transfer....but the current owner must complete the transfer.

It will be from a gun shop in my area that does shipping. If I remember correctly there is a registration certificate? How do I get that if the business registers it for me?

The certificate will arrive in the mail. The gun is already registered. The registration is transferred to your name.

When you buy, you provide the shop with all your info including your PAL#, the shop uses this info to transfer the firearm from their ownership to yours, they handle the whole transfer. They do all the work and is usually instant for Non-restricted. Restricted firearms will have to be approved by your CFO before the transfer will be finalized, this takes anywhere from one or two day to a month.

With private sales, the seller usually initiates the transfer, and you have to call in with a reference number (provided be the seller) and complete the transfer.
