Hey guys, so I have been going to Florida on vacation for the past few winters and I have found a really sweet state funded (free to use ) gun range near our place down there. I have been bringing a bunch of guns back and forth but have never been able to bring my AR. Us law states I can't bring a rifle with a barrel shorter than 18". I know in the states they have their SBR laws that can be avoided by certain "pistol" AR parts. Is this likewise in Canada? Can I put a buffertube that will not accept a stock on and tell the rcmp that I have modified my rifle to now classify as a pistol?

Seems like an easy justification to buy a dedicated lower for your trips south. One you can just leave the "brace" on at all times.

So can I just take the stock off and call the rcmp and say it's a pistol now? Or do I need a dedicated pistol buffertube

I think you would need to purchase a pistol lower that is already registered as such. Some AR15 lowers are imported as pistols.

I have a Spike's Tactical lower and the registration cert indicates "handgun". The serial number starts with STP with the P indicating "Pistol". This came from a Spike's 10.5" AR I bought years ago even though it was in rifle configuration with a full stock.
