So, just received word that my restricted PAL was approved, and I can soon purchase my first firearm.

However, an opportunity has come up. A long time family friend passed away recently. When he did, his family found a pile of unregistered guns, from the days before the registry. Currently, they are planning on turning them in to be destroyed.

However, a couple have caught my eye, and if legally possible, I would like to register them in my name.

One is a pump .22, non restricted, how would I go about registering this? I understand an amnesty is in effect for non-restricted firearms?

I'm also wondering about registering an unregistered restricted firearm (AR-15). It's currently heading towards destruction, unless I can save it. The original purchase receipts were kept with the rifle, which has been locked away unknown to the world for quite a while. Is there any way to register this, or is it destined to be destroyed?

Register them all online.

Start filling in the forms. The feds will register all non-restricted and restricted (as long as you have PAL and RPAL). They don't care about amnesty or not. Just watch out for prohibs. If you register a prohib and do not have prohib on your license you will be "flagged for ever until you sell it to someone who has prohib satus.

Make sure you are a member of a Gun Club first. Not sure where you are but Silver Core in BC has a good Gun Club ($15 dollars for the year) and then apply for an ATT using the partially filled out ATT form Silver Core sends you. The Feds won't register Restrictedsunless you are a member of a gun club.

It's no problem registering an unregistered gun. Somewhere along the process you are asked how you came into possession of it and you just say it was handed down to you or you found it whatever.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR FRIENDS RELITIVES TO "TURN IN THESE GUNS FOR DESTRUCTION" and yes I know I'm yelling. Your friend spent many years and many more dollars collecting these pieces, he did not do so some twit could send them to the smelter. They have value both historical and in a financial sense, they are worth something. Funny how when someone passes away no one wants to turn in thier car or coin collection to be destroyed!!!

Yes, it's disgusting how well social engineering works on the sheeple. The deceased owner, if he had any sense, would have told his family and friends how to disperse his property before his death.

Anyway, you can easily register them. It's better than the foolish relatives giving them to the police.

Save them

I hope you can register all of them. I was informed recently that a neighbour of my Uncle died, then the neighbours wife died 9 days later. The estate went to one person because her name was on an old deed of the wife. She called the police about his fire arms instead of my uncle. the man had numerous winchester rifles that got sent to the cutters, I never got a crack at saving them. I didn't know the neighbour, but I'm mourning the loss of the winchesters.
