Regular day at the farm Friday update

When I could first get a hunting licence for deer in Saskatchewan (mid-1960's), we lived in West Central Sask - so mostly hunted in the big community pastures in Zone 46. Would see the occasional mule deer. In last years that we hunted there - just when CWD was coming around - easily twice the mule deer to white tails. Story there was the mule deers eat what white tails need to get through winter - so mule deer "starved" the white tails out.

Last time I went through there - year or two after the CWD culls - was a muzzle loader mule deer season - wanted to take my elderly father through all the "old places" one more time - for the day we were out, did not see one deer. Same area about 15 years earlier, buddy and I made trip back to there to hunt - each of us had 2 antler-less mule deer tags, one antler-less white tail and one either-### white tail tags - all seasons were open for the same week.

Now I am living in Western Manitoba - same deal here, now - see about 25% mule deer and 75% white tail - no Manitoba season for the mule deer - inevitable in a few years - maybe 10 years - will be no white tail left here...

Powdergun - need to ask that CO why there were mule deer signs near Meadow Lake, Big River, etc. - at least 20 years ago - did they have something special going on around Prince Albert??

I remember signs like that in the Chitek lake area too now that you mention. Maybe that C/O is a bit of a newb. I have run in to the odd one that had questionable memory. About 30 years ago I use to fish a lot from shore around deifenbaker on Coteau bay. In two weeks the same one checked for my liscence five times. I said each time don't you remember you just check me two days ago. He would just look bewildered.
