Im having truble getting the ontario hunting regulations pdf thing work on my pc.

Im from Alberta and will be in ontario with the wife at a cottage. I would like to do some bird hunting. Ill be down just out side the sue.

Anyone know how much a bird licence cost for a non res ?

I could be wrong but I believe you just waltz into an Ontario Wal Mart and show them your Alta hunting license and buy a small non-res game tag. Pay and go kill...

I would assume as we'll it's easy to get, just wondering more or less what the cost is ?

I know for non res in Alberta it's much higher.

Is it true as well you need a licence and there is a season for squirrel in ont ?

Yes you need a licence for squirrel, grey and fox squirrels are open from sept 1 to march 31.

There is no open season for reds, they are considered fur-bearers...

Non-resident’s licence tag to hunt small game....$112.46
This licence tag authorizes a non-resident to hunt fox,
game birds (except wild turkey), rabbits and hares
in most areas, raccoon (though not at night), wolf*,
coyote* and black, gray and fox squirrels but not red
squirrels. The non-resident’s small game licence tag also
authorizes the holder to hunt game birds on game bird
hunting preserves. This licence tag does not authorize the
holder to hunt American crow, brown-headed cowbird,
common grackle, house sparrow, red-winged blackbird
or starlings** or any species of unscheduled wildlife.
However, you can hunt wild turkey if you possess a
wild turkey licence in addition to a non-resident’s small
game licence tag. This licence tag is not valid in northern
Ontario and part of central Ontario from June 16 to
August 31 except for hunting by falconry and hunting
game birds on a game bird hunting preserve (see Map 2,
pages 8 to 9, for more details).
A non-resident small game licence tag does not allow
you to hunt rabbits in the county of Lambton, the
Municipality of Chatham-Kent or the county of Essex,

Ontario non-resident outdoors card: $9.68 tax inc, non-resident small game licence tag: $112.46 tax inc.

There is a squirrel season in Ontario from mid September to mid December for most WMUs. They are included under the small game tag.

Thx. I appreciate the help.

Little steap for small game hunting. Reading that made me remember you guys have turkey however! Something we don't have out west here. Instead of paying over $100 to hunt small game I might mess with a turkey call. no gun, just see what I can call in. It's the wife's family's camp so if I get lucky, ill maby pay for a turkey tag and go back next year. That would be worth it to me.

Rabbits ect I can hunt here for free all year out back. Kinda hard to justify the Ontario fee when I'll only be there for 2 days. Well... Other than the fact the fee goes to a good use.. But I'm not rich sadly.

A non-resident turkey tag is the same price as a resident turkey tag ($27.49) however you do need to do the course and take the test ($35) . You can order the dvd for the course and it includes your test however the test must be done in person with a registered examiner. Also, to get a turkey tag you must buy the non-resident outdoors card and a small game licence tag...

... you may just want to bring some calls and a camera instead of a gun...

It does seem that they have really ratcheted up that fee over the last few years. Its too bad they don't have a short term licence like they do for fishing to help accomodate people in your situation.

Oh well, we have to pay for all of daltons windmills somehow. You should see lots of those out by the soo these days.
