i decided to install a new 6 inch on my DA Reichsrevolver. the octagon flats were excactly 3/4 inch. being lazy. I cut notch in the box end to go over
the front sight. then i kept cutting for about 3 inches. i wraped i layer of elevtrical tape and i had to drive a small hacksaw cut to open the box
end to slide the wrench on over the tape. i then did the same thing to aluminum angle in the vice to clamp the frame. i hade to use purple force
with a 2 ft extntion to loosen the barrel. this left 3 little marks on the edge of the flats. 20-20 hindsight, i should of used aluminum frm a beer can.
now the thread pitch gauge . 1.4 MM pitch was the closeses i could get but it was,nt right. got the sae pitch gauge and 18 tpi was bang on. WTF???
i was standing there and the light came on . 3/8 pipe thread is 18 tpi. i grabed a 3/8 pipe tap and it screwed right in un till i bottomed out.
pipe taps are npt. T stands for taper. they make 3/8 nps. s stands for straight. any how i have the barrel fitted with 3 thou cylinder gap. now i hav to make a front sight/
i forgot to mention . before i turned the barrel of , i had clamped a pair of vice grips close to the box end of the wrench. this realy gripped the barrel tite.
the notch in the wrench is to allow to go over the front sight.

Nice. I had a little stroke of luck one day making a bushing for my 500 Jeffery dies (1"-14) i did t have the gears to cut it single point and I wanted to finish the project that day so I went looking and found a 3/4npt tap is 14tpi and is just over 1" diameter at the top of the threads. So I ground the top 4 threads of the die so the max dimension was 1" and send it through my adaptor. The end result was a straight 1" 14tpi threaded hole. Worked perfectly

here is a pic of the 6 in barrel finished. i did not like the stailless steel looks so i sprayed it with acid etch primer
and give it 2 coats of black rustolium 2X and made a front sight useing a brass fitting thats held on with 2 drops of 680
locktite. i,m a anxious to clock the velocitys with the longer barrel and the much titter and proper 44 cal bore.

update on my 6 inch barrel performance. same load as b4 , 175 fps faster. this 6 in barrel is true 44 cal and the cylinder
barrel gap is a lot smaller, around 4 thou iirc . another surprise , the casses come out smokey on the outside. they are not expanding.
i don,t have to push the cases out, i just point the barrel up and rotate the cylinder and they fall out. theses 121 gr round balls
are zooming along at 950 fps. this weatherbay rifle free bore trick is definately tempering the pressure spike. i think i have another
6 inch piece of 44 cal barrel. gona have to rebarrel my SA reichsrevolver also.
