After seeing Hungrys stock again I decided I wanted to reinforce the inside of my USGI stock with fiberglass like his , I first thought of using a couple damaged carbon bolts from my crossbow bedded into the fiberglass . After test fitting (2) 8.5 in pieces I decided it would work but if there was issues with the gas system clearance it would be a hassle to grind them of the way..... I believe sgmacken split his arrows lengthways and bedded them ...
I just used 10 layers of fiberglass and my new longer sling swivel screws .... Thanks again for the screws Hungry :)
The stock is now considerably stiffer.
I used spruce and pine boughs and Krylon camo paint with a couple coats of clear afterwards.

Hey, thanks for the kind words.... :D I appreciate the love!

Any of you USGI stock owners wanna tighten up that front end from twisting while shooting long range? It's easy! I've got this project up in one of the sticky(ies) and It's also a lot of fun working with the 10 layers of fiberglass cloth and resin bought from Cambodian Tire!

Now my USGI glass stock is way stiffer on the front end. Much more positive feel! Not too noodly feel! :)

Yup, I did just what chalkriver said...split the arrows down the middle, just like Robin Hood, and epoxied them in after laying up all the cloth...they filled in the remaining gap just fine without any grinding or sanding and provided that extra little bit of stiffness needed. Really, who doesn't like being extra stiff?

Was considering doing the same to mine. Curious though if a rifle is allready shooting in the 1.5 to 2MOA range is there potential for a stiffer forestock to have a negative affect on accuracy. Have allready done a similar paint job will have to post some pics of it when I get home.

My stock is black, like the cold ##### night it came from. I'd paint it, but I'm liking the emo goth look, especially when I'm crying at night because all my friends made up lies so they didn't have to hang out with me

I'm wondering if a few flashes of red and maybe some buttsweat on my stock would spruce it up a bit.

Graphic.... Haha

Looks great. Can you estimate the tension between the stock ferule and the tab on the thingamajig (forget its proper name)? Give us a range report as to whether you see any improvement in accuracy.

Got mine a long time ago and at that time it was pretty cool to have the Desert Storm color... JP.

Stock looks great Chalk, that rifle looks done. Now what?

They are never done !!! I still want to unitize the gas system and do the loctite and center punch treatment for the op rod guide on my 2 rifles and then I will be close . Just waiting for my NEW TACTICAL HIGH SPEED ROLL PINS from Hungry :D
