Relaoding 243?

I recently acquired a Remington 700 SPS in 243. It has 9 1/8 twist barrel (I don't think I did my homework). I was primarily looking to shoot about 75 grain bullets in it.

I was wondering in anyone has any starting loads to suggest? I now know that it is likley meant to shoot heavier bullets (100 gr). What is working for you for powder and bullets?

h4350 and 75gr v-max is is a very accurate combp in my remmy

I like varget with the nosler 70 grainers. MOA at 600 yards. Not great, but not bad

H4350 over a Federal gold match primer and under a Nosler 70 BT is a wicked load for accuracy and bucking a little bit of wind. The 70 BT is my go to for LR groundhawgs in my 243 WSSM. Unfortunately my loading book is packed away, but you will have to step load anyways to ensure safety.

i was also going to start a thread like this, thanks for doing it for me. thanks for info this far guys, but what would be a better load for island deer/target shooting? i also have a rem700 BDL im not sure of the barrel twist.

work up to around 42 grains of RL15 or Varget behind a 70 grain bullet. I used the Nosler BT and it shot well and chrony'd @ 3500 f/s in a 24" tube. The lighter 55 grain bullets shoot a bit flatter, and the heavier 87 grainers drift a bit less in the wind, but its hard to beat the 70 grainer for varmint hunting in the 243.

I use 40 grains of Varget behind 70 grain Speer TNT's, clocks at 3200 fps.

Both my 243's shoots Sierra 85gr. HPBT's really well. 43.5gr. 4350 does the trick for accuracy. I have not checked velocity yet.
I also use 42gr 4350 and 100gr soft points at 2950 fps. in my old 670 Winchester. 75gr HP and 38.5gr 4895 also work pretty good to.
I spend more time on the 257's than the 243's these days.

So far I only have one pet load for my Savage 12fv .243.

40grains of Varget pushing a 65 grain vmax. I'm getting some nice groups and I've been using it on coyotes.

I'm now going to make a pet load with a heavier bullet and I think I'm going with the 95 grain Hornandy SST. Not sure on my powder yet but I'll work on that in a couple weeks.

Varget has become my go to powder for the .243. There are some who think that barrel life of the .243 can be extended by using slow burning powders(Re-22, 4831 etc) but I don't think there is enough data out there to come to any hard conclusion.

H 414 step loaded to slightly under max and 70 gr. Sierra hpbt match will shoot .75 MOA at 300 yds. and is a nice coyote load.
