relcaiming shot?

Cat,

It all depends how your range is set up and how much shot is on the ground. We have done a bit in Quesnel and plan on doing some more. Our range has quite a steep upslope in the shot fall area so the accumulations are pretty concentrated (pockets of shot on the hillside about 1" deep in places). The process we used was to sweep it into a dust pan with a hand broom. Then screen it with a screen that would allow allow 7 1/2 shot size to fall through. Then the screened shot was poured slowly through a the wind stream of a fan to blow all of the lighter debris out. Finally I dumped some powdered graphite in with the cleaned shot and shook it around to coat the pellets. We have been contemplating trying the cleaning and separation with a sluice box use for gold prospecting next time.

I mainly use the reclaimed shot for CAS shooting, but I used some 7/8 0z 12 gauge for trap practice a couple weeks ago and my scores were about the same as using factory loads so the patterns have to be fairly decent.

I think trying to reclaim shot here in Kelowna would be a worth while venture.
We have a hill that is at the "shot drop point" so it may be concentrated in that area. Vancouver does a goes good job. I think you can buy a machine to do it ??
