I'm looking at maybe getting a pistol, figure it would be fun to take out plinking, and it would be good to have one, just in case it gets harder to aquire one. I actually still have a Rossi .22,but I haven't got it down here yet since moving. So, if I wanted to get decent reliable handgun, preferably something in .45(10mm would be great, but a bit rare), where would I look?Is it possibleto ship handguns province to province? This would help get the .22 over here too,if it's legal.

You can buy a pistol from anyone in Canada. If you want an affordable 10mm buy a Glock 20. Glocks make great first guns anyway, and it is in a calibre you want. PS 10mm is hardly rare it has a large and enthusiastic following!

I just bought my first handgun in January. It was the price that sold me.

I bought a Sigpro 2022 in 9mm for around 600$

I did lots of reading before purchasing and I agree with the advice I got from others. This gun would be a value at a much higher price.

I'd go for a 9mm if I were you (and I do own .45's ;) ) M&P would be a great choice! They come in 45 as well though.

Taurus 24/7 is another good choice for a affordable 45 pistol. I've seen pics of the new PT895 an d hope they make it to Caanda sooner than later -nice looking plastic 45!

By economical I meant to purchase, not shoot. I reload,so any pistol is pretty cheap to shoot. The 9mm just doesn't move me,it's gotta be at least a .40 cal. The Glock 20 is great, talked a firend into buying one and it a great gun but a bit more than i can afford. The Norinco 1911's, do they accept aftermarket 1911 parts?

Other than the grip screw bushings, the Norinco 1911 is a Colt.

I have 3 of them now and they shoot very well. Two of them have aquired a few aftermarket parts, like new sights.

I also have the Sig clone (228) and the CZ85 clone (40S&W) and they shoot well.

The best finished one is the Sig 228 clone.

"...would be fun to take out plinking..." You're right, but it isn't legal to go out plinking with a handgun. Start by getting your RPAL.

What is a RPAL-a restricted licence? Got one of those, how else would I be buying pistols?Plinking is perfectly legal,as long as it's done in the right place, like a range. In Alberta, I believe you can also shoot on your home quater,at least that's what the local cops said.

.45, just get a new norc, or used 1911 to start with. But .45 is expensive. I would look at 9mm. Glock 17, Sig pro, S&W M&P, CZ's are good and well priced, Springfield XD. You can find many lightly used ones on the EE.

I have tried all of these guns and thought they good.

Get a G17. New or used.

* 22 conversion kit available
* lots of custom parts available
* 9mm is the lowest cost center fire ammo available.
* G17 is a good choice for action shooting games - good choice for IPSC production class.

Not restricted unless you have an approved range on your land. Stupid law? Sure is but that is the legal situation...To damn bad as shooting golphers with my Glock would be pretty sweet!

Glocking for golphers might be sweet, but I'm certain you can only shoot golphers on a golph course . . . would that be an approved driving range?

sorry . . . I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking it!
