Reliable semi auto

At 20 yards you should be able to hit a dime. Most pests heads are much larger than a dime. Maybe you need to try a variety of pellets and find one that gives you the accuracy for head shots. Shoot the gun over a chronograph and see if it’s in the 475 fps range. Just because they’re supposed to shoot an advertised speed doesn’t mean they do. Larger calibre will definitely help but only if you can hit what your aiming at!

Consider the pellets you are using also. JSB makes Hades pellets that are supposed to have a more devastating impact on pests. I'm not sure if they make any difference at lower velocities.

Some PCP airguns have power adjustments so you can essentially lower pellet velocity when needed. Of course you have to make allowances on the point of impact when you lower the velocity.
