Reliable supply of GP11?

My local guy has stopped bringing in GP11. The Shooting Edge in Cowtown was stocking it, but when I was there last in the Fall they were out.

Any other ideas? I would like to avoid having to re-load for this - half the appeal of this caliber is the ammo being tailored for the rifle I shoot it from.

Thanks in advance.

You want to avoid handloading, my friend, but you're going to have to, sooner or later. When I got into shooting, there were mountains of WW2 .303 cluttering up the landscape and very nice 8x57 was available at a nickel a pop. Austrian 8x50R was 4 cents a round. 6.5 Carcano was 6 cents (even in Canada) for Boxer-primed Winchester-Western stuff, you could get 11mm Mannlicher for $3 a hundred and many others. Even .43 Mauser was $3.65 a vox of 20, NONM primed, smokeless load, Dominion brand.

ALL gone now.

The supply of GP-11 will NOT last forever.

The only two companies that make it are Norma Projektilfabrik A/S in Sweden and Prvi Partizan in Serbia. The one is shockingly expensive, the other seemingly unavailable.

TRADEX (up at the top of this page) stocks brand-new Boxer-primed brass, the round uses any .30-calibre slug, any medium-range powder and standard Large Rifle primers. It is easy to oad and quick, too. And you have the satisfaction of turning out ammo that makes YOUR rifle shoot like a champ while everyone else is happy to shoot into 2 minutes.

Give it a think.

And do enjoy! That's what this whole sport is all about.

I reload 7.62x54r, .223, 12ga, 30-06, 8mm and a couple hunting rounds depending on what I go after in the fall. Load development for a specific rifle is entertaining up to a point BUT - A big part of the "Mystique" of the K31 is the ammunition that's made for it. The K is what I take out when I want a BS free afternoon of shooting. It's not BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG DIIING until my shoulder can't take it anymore (followed by picking up far-flung brass and another couple hours drudgery at the press) - its different.

I know the supply of GP isn't going to last forever - I bought 4x480 when I bought the rifle and I'll most likely buy more this time.

I think Shooter's Edge is still stocking it - I'm rural so "banner-fishing" via 56k is an enormous PITA. Hence asking here.

When there is NO GP11 left I'll buy the dies.

Dies are $32.95 from Lee Precision. I'm ordering a set for my 1889.

And I know about being rural.

Load development can be fun. THEN you load up what your rifle likes and stay with that load. I just did up 326 rounds of '06 (a boxful) for one rifle. I'll spend the next couple of years banging that off, even if I use the rifle in competition.

Besides, that's what Winter is for in this country. When it's 35 or 40 below, wandering about outside is plain nuts. Much better stay inside and crank out a barrel of .303 and fill up all those Carcano cases and Arisaka hulls and Mauser empties that you spend 6 months UNloading!

Have fun!

AFAIK, there is no GP 11 left in the stores. Only via private sales atm.
Will distributors get any more in? I hope so, but not holding my breath.

You my friend are in dire need of an SKS...

or

start reloading for it like Smellie said.

GP11, at $60.00 a 60 round brick at the Chilliwack gun show. Lee makes "Lee delux rifle die set", a special order item for about $42.00, plus a $15.00 special shipping fee to Canada. Prvi Partizan 7x55mm brass is available in Vancouver at the monthley gun show.
Tradex has it for $65.00 per hundred.

LEE has the dies on their regular listing under 'limited production'. Set includes FL sizer, seater, shellholder, load table and I do believe some extras in that calibre.... powder-through-die perhaps or factory crimp. No matter to me.... my '89 is desperate for something to eat.

Any shop that stocks LEE should be able to get 'em for you, avoid the special 'shipping to Canada' fee (which is very new, BTW).

I'm starting to narrow the focus my Mauser collecting and I've been considering selling off my entire Swiss Rifles collection, some of which is posted here:

Switzerland - Milsurps Knowledge Libraryhttp://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

Asa result, I'm probably not going to keep several cases of Swiss GP11 that I oriignally bought from TSE, so keep any open for the sale to start, of course, assuming you're still looking for it at that point. ;)

We also just opened a new Swiss Rifles Forumhttp://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=141 moderated by diopter, so you may want to leave a note there asking if anyone has surplus they'd like to sell off.

Regards,
Badger

I'm not going to pretend I know who's importing what for whom... But the nice folks @ The Shooting Edge confirmed they will not be getting any more 7.5x55. Apparently a one time deal w/ Ruag.

I ordered my RCBS FL die set this morning.

I own a Russian & Chinese - Good fun. But at roughly the same distances I need a target the size of a cow. My printer can't handle paper that big.

And TY Badgerdog, I'll do that and check that forum.
