I don't believe a large percentage of Mosin owners reload, as it has it challenges.
I did some reloading for my brother. I'm no expert, but I'll share my experience.
Lee makes a die set, and it comes with a shell holder. Nice as the shell holder for 7.62x54R isn't exactly common. It comes with a 308 expander, LEE has a note to order a 303 Br expander if the bore is large.
Boxer primed brass not so common either. Luckily Lapua makes 7.62x53R (Finnish version of 7.62x54R). It is a bit short, won't require trimming right away, if ever. It doesn't appear as if case stretch is an issue.
The Mosin bore has 4 grooves, use a caliper to measure the groove dia, or slug it with a soft lead bullet. After fire forming, I had to back the FL sizer out 0.018" in order to avoid setting the shoulder back. Both the Mosins in my possession are long in the tooth and a long way from pristine, but I suspect that it shares some of the same reloading issues the 303 Br has.
Both the barrels had generous bore/groove dimensions. I loaded 180 gr Sierra bullets with 47.5 gr of IMR 4350 (Lyman accuracy load) to an OAL a bit shorter than was listed. Even my M91 from 1907, Finnish capture, with some rifling still visible shot this load.
My experience shooting cast was positive, both with 309 and 311, 180 gr GC bullets. R&R has a 303 Br bullet listed, and we ordered a supply in 309 and in 311. With a 314/302 barrel the 311 bullet was better, but the 309 was OK, but it didn't rub in the grooves, even is driven hard. Nothing weird for shooting cast, 4198 and 5744 tested, predictable results.
I retired the M91 from active shooting, she's a tired old girl, needs a well deserved rest. I'll be listing it in the EE soon. It has history, hex receiver, Finnish capture, finger spliced stock, re-stamped sight, ......... if it could talk I'm sure it has a good story to tell.
