reload mosin?

I have a PU sniper so I do hand load x54r to try and squeeze out as much as possible out of her. Not sure why 54r "has its challenges", no harder or easier to load then any other round when it comes to military surplus. Easier actually then a few I own -- you think 54r brass is hard to find? Try 11mm Mauser.

I agree that loading 7.62X54r doesn't pose any different challenge vs any other standard round. I have done lots of reloading for my Mosins. I have a home built "Target" bubba Mosin that has consistently shot a hair above 1" at 200M with 47.3 gr Varget with .311 168 gr SMK's loaded just off the lands. It also easily shoots 1.5" with Chinese milsurp at 100M.

After much experimenting with cast bullets in the Mosin I have found a great load that consistently shoots 1-1/4" at 100M. Lyman 314299 Sized to .311 (best for my Mosins) with gas checks (Size to you're slugged bore dia) then sorted out and grouped to +/- .5gr by weight and loaded on top of 22 gr Allient 2400.

*edit - for 7.62X54 brass I buy PPU factory match grade ammo from western metal and Lapua 7.62x53 from prophet river. I did see better groups when I started using Lapua and annealing.

Alternatalivly you can convert steel Bredan cases to boxer. I bought one of these but haven’t been tried it yet.

Hello,

I didn't forget! I had to take new pictures -- Photobucket has been returning errors when I go to download my own pictures. I won't pay their extortion fees embed and I guess they're holding my stuff ransom. I can view it, though, and maybe I can take screenshots and crop. That'll take a while.

Anyway, a couple new pictures of some reloads I keep in the shop:

Those were a couple different batches of different styles of Hornady bullets. You'll notice that the cannelure is located in a couple different places according to batch. I even ended up with SST bullets once that had them all over in the same batches! Weird. I just sorted 'em though.

These are my go-to light (150grn) loads.

Regards,

Josh
